December 1 onwards, mobile phone users
do not have to worry about going to their phone operators’ stores for
linking their phones with Aadhaar card. It would become a lot easier
from within the proximities of home. According to a government
regulation, it is mandatory to re-verify your mobile number with yur
Aadhaar number by February 06, 2018.
In a statement released by UIDAI, the card
issuer authority said, “No need to give finger prints to local SIM card
retailer for your mobile phone verification… From December 1, 2017, you
can do it from comfort of your home through OTP received on mobile
number registered with Aadhaar.”
For the ease of mobile phone users,
UIDAI has issued two ways of verifying the sim card with the Aadhaar
card- one by going to the website or the app provided by the mobile
phone operators and second by calling the phone helplines for getting an
OTP to verify their Aadhaar with mobile number.
Linking Aadhaar and SIM through operator’s website
The mobile phone users can visit the
website or mobile apps of their telecom operators and re-verify the
Aadhaar number. The user has to first enter the mobile number which is
to be verified. The telecom operator will generate an OTP on the given
mobile number, which has to be entered on the website or app. This will
confirm that the mobile number to be re-verified is with the person. A
consent message will be displayed on the website and after checking that
box, you need to enter your Aadhaar number.
The operator will generate an OTP
request to UIDAI which will be sent to the number registered. This OTP
will have to be re-verified, which will finalise the connection between
the SIM and the Aadhaar card.
Calling the helpline number
The second best way to link the SIM with
Aadhaar card is to call your telecom service provider. An IVRS will
instruct you to give details of the Aadhaar card and mobile number.
While the rest of the process is the same as above, the user will
receive the OTP from UIDAI, which has to be entered to re-verify.
UIDAI said, “The IVR language should be in English, Hindi and other regional languages of the respective states/circles.”
It has to be noted that it has become
mandatory to link your bank account and insurance policies with Aadhaar,
the deadline of which is December 31, 2017. UIDAI has launched its
mAadhaar for Android users back in July, where all details about the
Aadhaar and the accounts linked to it can be accessed.
